ABOUT THE KERN RIVER VALLEY

The Kern River Valley is one of the hidden gems of Kern County. Located about an hour from Bakersfield to the West and an hour from Ridgecrest from the east, the Kern River Valley is nestled in the foothills of and surrounded by the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is the gateway and home to many recreational activities. It is made of of several communities and towns including Lake Isabella, Kernville, Wofford Heights, Mountain Mesa, Bodfish, South Lake, Weldon, and Onyx, and is a close drive to the mountain communities of Havilah, Caliente, Alta Sierra and Glennville.

The centerpiece of the Kern River Valley is Isabella Lake, which encompasses about 32 square miles of water, fed by the Kern River, one of the most beautiful, yet deadliest, rivers in the world. With water coming from the foothills of Mt. Whitney, Isabella lake is col year round, and yet is visited every year by many who come for the camping , water sports, and excellent fishing.
